WORKFORCE TRAINING

PROGRAM OVERVIEW
Here’s what you can expect
Work with Bindley can be a key step for people embarking on careers in life sciences. Not only will they learn from leading professionals in the field, but they’ll gain a greater understanding of research methods and how experimentation leads to real-world solutions. In addition, hands-on familiarity with scientific instruments can open career doors.
HEAR FROM OUR UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS

“Bindley has given me the confidence”
Alexander Higgins is a junior from West Lafayette, Ind., majoring in biochemistry in Purdue. He’s worked at Bindley’s Metabolomics Profiling Facility as a lab assistant.
“Everyone’s passionate about showing me how the instruments work. … I am interested in grad school, and I was nervous at first to do it, but I think working at Bindley has given me the confidence to know that I can do it.”

“Everyone at Bindley is very welcoming”
Faith Scott, a Purdue student from Hobart, Ind., is headed to medical school. Her senior thesis on biomarkers of aging was based on research she did at Bindley. She also worked in the Proteomics Core Facility doing sample prep.
“This was my first-ever research experience, so I was very nervous and shy coming in, but everyone at Bindley is very welcoming. … Everyone wants to help one another and keep everyone learning and excited. … I loved my time at Bindley a lot.”

“It’s given me a great foundation”
Anne Hummer, a Purdue student from Cleveland, is working on her doctorate in pharmacy. She is about to start her final year with clinical work at Northwestern Medicine in Chicago. At Bindley, she worked for several years doing sample prep.
“What I want to do is more clinical-based rather than the actual applications that I’m doing here in Bindley. But it’s taught me a lot about the whole research-and-development side of things. … It’s given me a great foundation as to what it takes to do successful research.”

Our core facilities
Major research is performed at Bindley in more than a dozen facilities offering expertise and instruments to scientists working at Purdue, other academic institutions and industry.
